Jordan Mason ( b.1991) is an artist from Baltimore, Maryland. He received his BFA in Illustration with a concentration in animation from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013. Jordan currently spends his time living and working between both Baltimore and New York. He is disciplined in multiple media including illustration, painting, and photography. His style, which he calls pop-modern, is a combination of painting and illustration that utilizes bright colors, and black silhouette technique with solid line work. His work is based on imagination and the idea of individuality through self expression.
Jordan’s illustration work focuses on identity, culture, and imagination. He creates figures and compositions in blank backgrounds with an emphasis on negative and positive space. This approach creates a striking contrast between the composition and the space it occupies.
Jordan’s painting style is very direct with a focus on simplicity and specific color combinations. The paintings are words and phrases that act as a medium for commentary on the current and past events of the world. The idea of saying a lot without saying much is a recurring theme in his work and an attempt to create a dialog that evokes conversation and individual perception.
Jordan’s street style photography specifically focuses on color and the candid shot. He focuses on the subject being in their most natural state when captured. The candid shots showcase a person’s individuality and personal style.
